Obesity is one of the largest public health issues of today and it is threatening the health of our youth. 23.5 million Americans, including 6.5 million children, live in “food deserts” — areas without a single supermarket. Chad Miller of Portland’s Food Fight Vegan grocery has been a major supporter from the start “We are so happy to be able to support the Portland Youth Hip Hop Green Dinner. We feel it is an amazing opportunity to help spread the idea that a plant-based diet is not only better for you, the animals, and the planet, but also that taking control over what you put into your body is an inherently self-empowering idea.”

The Youth Hip Hop Green Dinners (YHHGD)are a community based vegan dining experience geared towards urban youth and young people who identify with Hip Hop culture. The YHHGD’s are designed to be a perfect combination of information and entertainment. By breaking bread and sharing information in a relaxed and entertaining environment, the YHHGD’s help youth make the connection between their diet, lifestyle and their health.

The goal of the YHHGD’s is to be a catalyst for our on going health curriculum which is a model that is based on exposing youth to their local food environment. As they discover and learn we expand the classroom to local experts and businesses in their own community. We believe the Green Dinners can help change young people’s lives even before the film hits the big screen and we are proud and honored to be in Portland. Portland’s own The Green Lady stated. “I am excited to be a part of the wave, “Where Hip-Hop Meets the Green Movement” that is now powerfully sweeping across diverse communities to reclaim health as a means of power and self-determination”.

This event is also supported by our friends at Organically Grown Company. “Organically Grown Company supports Pursuit of a Green Planet because we recognize our need to educate the next generation of eaters and teach them what real food is. Keith is doing the real work; connecting farmers and producers to eaters using hip hop to speak to the youth of our country.”

If you are not in the Portland, Oregon area and would like to contribute to this important project please review our campaign here: http://www.indiegogo.com/greendinner?a=194901

As documentary filmmakers we are not only participating in solutions but we are also reaching out to top entertainers, educators and health professionals to introduce young people to their very first vegan meals across the country. “As we continue to develop and promote our film project we felt one of the most important things we could do was to reach out to young people and their parents and let them try the food and learn from mentors in their community”, said Keith Tucker, producer and visionary behind the project. “If we can introduce young people to health options using Hip Hop, Film and Vegan food, it will be a major step in the right direction.

About the film| “Pursuit of a Green Planet”, where Hip Hop meets the Green movement is the first documentary film project about Hip Hop, health and the green movement. The film takes a critical look at the connections between food, culture, economics and the epidemic of obesity related disease plaguing America’s youth. Keith is a regular guy who will become a living experiment as he makes the radical transition from your average American diet and lifestyle to a truly green, organic vegan lifestyle. Starting with a full medical profile of his current health condition, he will work with a team of the best medical and health professionals at every stage of the process as he cleanses his body, transitions to a vegan diet, and conditions his body to operate at peak performance. The film will document the biological, physical, psychological and emotional transitions of the process. Can he make it? How hard will it be?

The Portland Youth Green Dinner is being hosted in conjunction with the Center for Self Enhancement, Food Fight Grocery, Portobello Vegan Trattoria, The Green Lady and Organically Grown Company. For more information please visit www.hiphopisgreen.com or friend us at our Facebook page Poagp Doc.
